AL BURAIMI: Preliminary excavation works have begun as part of a project to restore the historic Bait Bahr House in the Wilayat of Al Buraimi.
The project is being carried out by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in cooperation with the Office of the Governor of Al Buraimi as part of efforts to preserve the governorate’s historical landmarks.
A geophysical survey revealed possible foundations and underground walls at the site. Four trial pits were also excavated in the surrounding area to uncover archaeological features and determine the actual boundaries of the historic property.
Hamid bin Rashid al Zaidi, Director of the Heritage and Tourism Department in Al Buraimi Governorate, said the works form part of preparations for the restoration of the historic landmark.
He said the consultancy firm appointed for the project is preparing the necessary studies and proposals for assessment.
Al Zaidi added that the project reflects the ministry’s efforts to transform heritage assets into tourist attractions that complement the existing attractions of Al Buraimi Oasis.
A specialised excavation team is documenting archaeological discoveries and collecting field data that will serve as an important reference during the upcoming restoration phases. The work will contribute to preserving the site’s historical and architectural identity.
Eng Obaid bin Salim al Kaabi, Director of the Projects Department at Al Buraimi Municipality, said the Governorate has floated a tender for consultancy studies to develop the old neighbourhood and the pathways leading to the site.
The project seeks to establish an integrated development vision that preserves the area’s traditional urban identity, highlights its historical significance and prepares it for future projects that reflect its authentic character.
